SCHOOL COMMITTEE MONTHLY MEETING OF MEMBERS. (“Times-Age” Special.) /it the monthly meeting of the Greytown District High School Committee there were present: Messrs H. G. Carter (chairman), W. Grigg, E. Galyer, . . Huntley, R. O’Neale, H. C. Trotman, W. Wiggins. Mrs Knell, and the headmaster. Mr S. C. Shedden. The Wellington Education Board wrote in reply to the committee s request for an emergency exit door in the main corridor at the school, that the board’s architect would examine the position on his next visit. It was decided that the District High School classroom windows be remodelled in order to provide more ventilation. . j. The supply of timber for dm n_w fuel shed is likely to be forthcoming in the near future, as the Wellington Education Board was making application for the same.
The question of providing a new surface for a portion of the playing area was held over for one month. , The headmaster reported the preseni. roll numbers ot be: Primary 299, secondary 41. It was resolved that the question on the Matarawa school bus being diverted to transport Ahikouka children be submitted to the Wellington Education Board. , ■ , It was announced that 268 new booxs had been received from the school libraries’ department. GOLF CLUB DRAW FOR KELTIE BUTTONS. The draw for the first round oi the Keltie Buttons, to be played by. the ladies at Greytown on Saturday, is as follows:—Mrs Jury v. Miss E. Gregor, Mrs Gold v. Miss M. Maddison, Miss B. Feast v. Miss J. Feast, Miss R. Collier v. Miss B. Gregor. Miss M. Collier v. Miss M. Quin. Miss F. Oxford v. Miss M. Wood, Miss Askew v. Miss J. Bouzaid. Miss M. Carter v. EUCHRE PARTY AND DANCE
The Papawai Tribal Committee held a euchre party and dance in the Odd Fellows’ Hall last night. There was a large attendance and the gathering was! excellently managed, those present spending a most enjoyable time. The winners at euchre ■were: Ladies, Miss A. Marunui 1, Mrs K. Matiaha (Papawai) 2; men, Mr W. Flood 1, Mr M. Hume 2; consolation prize. Russell Fullner, Masterton. Miss Marunui and Mr Hume handed their prizes back to the committee to be auctioned, and the sum of 12s was realised thereby. Mr R. Pickard donated £1 to the committee. The music for the dancing was supplied by Mrs P. Piwari, Mrs J. Flood and R Remene. Mr T. Karaitiana was M.C. Personal Items. The Rev. G. Knowles Smith and Mrs
Smith will spend the week-end at Woodville.' Mr Smith will take part in the Methodist Church anniversary celebrations there. Mr F. Dennes left yesterday on a short visit to Auckland. TOWN HALL “POWDER TOWN.” “Powder. Town,” a thrilling drama, starring Victor McLaglen and Edmond O’Brien, will be presented tonight. Also on the programme is “Eyes of the Underworld,” a sensational story with Lon Chaney and Richard Dix in the chief roles.
