PLUNKET SOCIETY
ANNUAL REPORT OF PRESIDENT.
At the annual meeting of the Featherston branch of the Plunket Society the report of the president (Mrs Q. Donald) on the past year’s activities, stated inter alia: —The year has again passed without any effort to raise funds, so that the balance in the Post Office Savings Bank is slowly decreasing and now stands at £268 15s lOd, while the balance in the current ac( count at the Bank is £4l 9s Bd. It is pleasing to note that subscriptions, donations, sale of Karitane products, literature, etc., have shown a substantial increase of £3O 11s 6d on last year’s figures. This increase is chiefly due to the stout effort of our Plunket nurse, Miss Hitchman, who has been instrumental in placing facts before mothers and thus inducing them to join as members. This greatly helps to relieve the financial burden every branch is faced with, and the nurse’s help and co-operation is of immense value. The thanks of the society are tendered to Mrs J. Hornabrook, who kindly donated a beautifully handsewn child’s organdi frock to be raffled and this realised the sum of £6 10s. Since the last annual meeting, monthly meetings of the committee have been held instead of bi-monthly | as in the previous year. It is regretted that these meetings arc not as well attended as might be, and trust the attendance and enthusiasm will be increased during the coming year. Diphtheria immunisation was carried out by Dr. Mullholland of the Health Department, and many mothers availed themselves of this wonderful opportunity and had their children made immune. Excellent work is being carried out by Dr. Mullholland, who, visits the rooms bi-monthly to examine the older children. The Society is indeed extremely fortunate in having the services of Miss Hitchman, who is a loyal, devoted and conscientious worker. She has the aims and objects of the work closely at heart and it is earnestly hoped that mothers will carry out her instructions and advice 1 wholeheartedly. I wish to thank the mothers who have become members, the committee for their co-operation and attendance during the year, Nurse Hitchman, Mr J. G. McKenzie, for auditing the books; Messrs Tait and McKenzie for cartage free, and all others who have assisted the society in any way.
