MESSINA FERRY
AND TARGETS IN HEEL OF ITALY ATTACKED BY ALLIED AIRCRAFT. TWO PLANES LOST IN ALL OPERATIONS. (British Official Wireless.) (Received This Day, 12.5 p.m.) RUGBY, June 9. The ferry terminus at Messina and other objectives on Sicily, as well as in the heel of Italy, were attacked by our aircraft. Fronj all operations we lost two planes. ONLY TWO MEN LOST IN RAID ON LAMPEDUSA. (British Official Wireless.) (Received This Day, 12.5 p.m.) RUGBY, June 9. In the reconnaissance raid on the Italian island of Lampedusa, 100 miles south of Pantelleria, two members of the British landing party did not return. An earlier message stated that “some” members of the landing party did not return. Enemy reports asserted that the whole force which landed was wiped out and that several Allied naval vessels were sunk. A communique from Malta has made it clear that these enemy reports are false and that vhe 'only Allied loss suffered was that of the two members of the landing party who failed to return.
