PURGE IN RUMANIA
HUNDREDS OF OFFICIALS DISMISSED. SUSPECTED OF ANTI-NAZI SENTIMENTS. (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) LONDON. June 8. The Chief of the Rumanian State. General Antonescu, has purged the Government service, dismissing hundreads of officials and also several district governors, whose places are being filled by army officers, according to information reaching Istanbul from Bucharest.
The object of the purge is stated to be to eliminate officials who are suspected of anti-Nazi sentiments, specially those opposing the sending of more Rumanian troops to the Russian front. Hitler is reported to have promised Antonescu a revision of the Rumanian frontier with Hungary in return for sending further forces into Russia.
