TOWNSWOMEN’S GUILD
MEETING IN MASTERTON. INVESTMENT IN LIBERTY LOAN. The members of the Masterton Townswomen’s Guild held their monthly meeting in the Y.M.C.A., Masterton, yesterday, the president, Mrs Copp, presiding over a large audience. One minute’s silence was observed out of respect to the memory of the service men who had been killed, the late Mr J. G. Coates, and a mother of one of the members who died. A motion of regret was passed at losing the services of Mr Gaze. It was stated that he had been a wonderful help to the Guild. Several members stated that the Guild would miss him very much, as he had always been courteous and willing to assist the guild in its work.
Mrs Judd appealed for clean newspapers to pack in soldiers’ parcels. Old socks were also needed to make into mittens. She stated that more knitters were urgently required. It was unanimously decided that the guild invest £lO in the Liberty Loan. The roll call, which the whole of the members responded to, was “The use of scissors in the kitchen.”
Two items were nicely rendered by the singing circle. The competition (the prettiest cup and saucer) resulted: —Mrs Walker 1, Mrs Challis 2, Mrs Snowsill 3. The sum of £3 3s was donated to the Red Cross Society. The president’s motto for the day was: “None is useless in the world who lightens the burden of others.”
The chief speaker at the meeting was Mr Keltie, who took as his subject “Food.”
