ITALIAN BATTLESHIPS

TWO REPORTED DAMAGED RESULTS OF LATEST RAID ON SPEZIA. NO EVIDENCE OF DIRECT HITS. (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) LONDON, June 7. The Italian battleship Roma is reported to be down by the bows and the Littorio to be damaged amidships as a result of Saturday’s raid on Spezia, according to a usually well-informed source quoted by the Berne correspondent of the “Evening Standard.”

An Algiers report says that photographs taken during the raid show that no direct hits were scored on the battleships. Reports reaching Switzerland state that four big Italian warships arrived at Spezia less than an hour before the Fortresses raided the port. Official quarters say that the attack' was directed exclusively against the port area, where the material damage was considerable but the casualties low.
