FINANCIAL DEBATE
OPENING IN THE HOUSE TONIGHT. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. With the opening of the Budget de-* bate in the House of Representatives tonight a start will be made on the real work of the session. The first speaker will be the Leader of the Opposition, Mr Holland, and he will fbe followed by the Prime Minister. The course which Mr Holland will set for the Opposition is being discussed with interest in the lobbies.
Rumour is again prevalent as to the probability of an early election. Those who believe it will be held in the near future suggest that this would be tactically sound on the Government’s part while a non-taxation Budget and its concessions were fresh in the public’s mind. Other views incline to a brief debate and the speedy passing of the departmental estimates with an adjournment of the House till well on in the year. Nothing has been disclosed officially as to the Government’s intentions, but endeavours will probably be made by the Opposition to draw information during the debate.
