ST. ANDREW SOCIETY

ENJOYABLE CONCERT & DANCE.

EXCELLENT PROGRAMME PRESENTED.

The Masonic Hall, Masterton, was crowded on Saturday night when the St. Andrew Society presented a concert of a high order of merit, followed by a dance. The audience was most appreciative of the programme presented.

The programme was opened by two selections by the Pipe Band, followed by Mrs J. Bailey who sang “Sing to me the old Scots Sangs,” and for an encore “My Heart is Sair.” Jack Sexton danced the Sean Triubhais and the Highland Fliii'g aiid Sergeant Gordon Carr, of the Marine Corps, gave as flute solos his own variations of “Cornin’ thru the Rye” and “The Bluebells of Scotland.” The audience was particularly pleased with vocal solos rendered by Dr. M. J. Purdy. He sang “Where ’ere you Walk” (Handel), “Jeannie with the Light Brown Hair” and in response to the persistent clamour of the audience sang “Take a Pair of Sparkling Eyes.” Mrs N. Leadley cleverly recited “Scottish Martyrs,” followed by a humorous item. Miss D. Mahoney sang “My Ain Folk” and “Robin Adair.” Mrs W. Watson played the accompaniments. Dancing followed the concert programme. The music was supplied by Mr J. Barnes’s Orchestra and Mr T. Pickett (bagpipes). Mr J. W. Henderson was a capable M.C. Supper was served by the committee. Those present considered the gathering to be a most successful one.
