Colonel Haas, commanding the Belgian Brigade, in an order of the day to his troops, who recently arrived in the Middle East, said: “This Allied Army of the Middle East is the army which is to protect Africa and possibly to invade Southern Europe. You will soon be in a theatre of active operations. When the time comes for an offensive, we shall have a position we deserve. The hour of deliverance for our King and country is approaching.”
