Solicitor’s Death.

An inquest into the death of Audrey Basil Croker, barrister and solicitor, who was found by his professional partner, Mr R. I. M. Sutherland, dead in his home at Lower Hutt on May 24, was conducted by the coroner, Mr W. G. L. Mellish, yqsterday. Mr Croker had been living alone while his wife and family were on holiday. Mr Mellish said it was quite clear from the medical evidence that heart disease had been coming on for some time. He found that death occurred on the night of May 23-24, the cause being coronary thrombosis. The late Mr Croker was well known in Masterton, which he periodically visited.

Air Training Corps. The weekly routine orders for No. 21 Squadron, Air Training Corps, Masterton, state, inter alia: Parades: A and B flights, Thursday, June 10, at 6.50 p.m. at Wairarapa College. C Flight: Tuesday, June 8 and Thursday, June 10, at 6.50 p.m., at State Theatre, Carterton. Syllabus: June 8, C flight, mathematics, navigation and science; A and B Flights, drill, signals, basic fitting and P.T.; C Flight, drill, P.T., signals and gas. It has been found necessary to cancel the football match with the Wellington Squadrons, which was to have been held on Monday, June 7. The Squadron dance has been postponed from Monday, June 7, to Monday, June 14. Cadets are advised that a parade will not be held on Monday, June 7.

The External Affairs Bill was passed by the House of Representatives yesterday after an unsuccessful attempt by the Opposition to amend a clause empowering Ministers and High Commissioners abroad to make their own staff appointments. The Island Territories Bill, which amalgamates the administration of the Dominion’s overseas dependencies, was read a second time and passed without amendment. The Patents, Designs and Trademarks Amendment Bill, which had been on the order paper for some weekp and which brings New Zealand patent law into line with Britain’s legislation for the war time protection of patentees, was quickly passed. The House adjourned at 4.7 p.m. till 7.30 p.m. on Tuesday, when the Leader of the Opposition, Mr Holland, will open the debate on the Financial Statement.
