VORACIOUS EELS

When some Invercargill sportsmen were shooting ducks during a recent weekend they had a fairly successful morning, but there was keen competition for those birds which fell on the water. The first three or four ducks were left Hooting while the shooting went on, but when one of the men went to gather up the birds he had a tug-of-war on his hands. Eventually he pulled the duck clear of the water, but a three-foot eel was clinging grimly to the bird’s bill and bird and eel were thrown into the boat together. On different occasions dead birds picked from the water were found to have been practically disembered by eels.
