RETURNED MEN
RIGHT TO SELECT EMPLOYMENT. DIRECTION TO MANPOWER OFFICERS. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. The question of freedom by returned service men to choose their own occupations was raised by Mr W. S. Goosman (Nat., Waikato) in the House of Representatives today. Mr Goosman asked that such men should not be compulsorily directed to a particular employment. Mr W. E. Parry, replying on behalf of Mr R. Semple, stated that instructions had been given to all manpower officers that, as a general rule, ex-service men should not be compulsorily directed to or refused the right to terminate employment in essential industries. The Minister said he was not aware of any complaints. In reply to a question asked by Mr W. J. Broadfoot (Nat., Waitemo), on behalf of Mr E. B. K. Gordon (Nat., Rangitikei), the Prime Minister, Mr Fraser, said there would be an announcement shortly regarding the months of military training for- those who had had their training deferred, and every effort would be made to avoid such training interfering with industry.
