Mrs D. Buchanan. The Terrace, Lansdowne, is visiting Wanganui. Mrs O. A. Bunny, Waipipi. has returned from a visit to Auckland. Mr and Mrs G. W. Sellar, Colombo Road, Masterton, are visiting Tauranga. Mr and Mrs H. McLaren, Paraparaumu Beach, are spending a few days in Masterton.

Mrs Fred Allen, of Solway School, has been granted leave of absence on account of ill health. Mrs Edmonds, Auckland, is the guest of Mrs G. C. Williams, Short Street, Masterton. Mr Gordon J. Reid has been elected chairman of the executive of the Wellington Navy League. Mr and Mrs J. D. Ross, Essex Street, Masterton, announce the engagement of their only daughter, Catherine Jessie, to Corporal Bill Pate, U.S.M.C., only son of Mr and Mrs William Pate, North Hollywood, California, U.S.A. Mrs E. A. Latham, of Essex Street, Masterton, has received official advice that her husband, Corporal E. A. Latham, has been discharged from hospital. He was reported wounded early in May. The Rev L. F. Owen, vicar of Pahautanui, is entering hospital for a long course of treatment. It is expected that the Rev J. E. Jones, formerly assistant curate at Masterton, who is in New Zealand on leave from India, will take part of Mr Owen’s duty. Miss Hannah More Fraser, of the American Red Cross, left Wellington yesterday for Auckland on her way to take up a new appointment with the headquarters staff in Australia. Miss Fraser has been in the Dominion since last November as director of club and off-camp activities.

Squadron Leader Ronald Bruce Leslie MacGregor, formerly of Masterton, has been awarded the Air Force Cross. Squadron Leader. MacGregor was prominent in civil aviation before the war and was a member of the Wairarapa Aero Club and a pilot in the Union Airways. He joined the R.N.Z.A.F. immediately war began as flying officer and carried out flying duties in both the North and South Island. He was posted overseas in 1941 and has had long service in the Pacific.

Lance-Corporal Martin Marshall Small, formerly of Masterton, who figures in the Birthday Honours list as a recipient of the British Empire Medal, receives the award for gallant conduct on an occasion in February when a Valentine tank overturned while on manoeuvres near Foxton and one officer and two other ranks were killed and one officer and 10 other ranks were injured. An official report at the time stated that remarkable resource and promptitude were displayed by all ranks at the scene. Corporal Small is now overseas.
