Mrs Reg. Gates, of Greytown, is spending a holiday with Mrs C. Eddie, of Hukanui.
The engagement is announced of Eileen Mary, daughter of Mr and Mrs G. H. Clark, Bath Street, Levin, and Laurence Douglas, son of Pte. and Mrs C. E. Blake, 127 Chapel Street, Masterton.
The death has occurred in Dannevirke of Mrs Margaret Isabella Agnew MacDonald, widow of Mr Donald MacDonald, a former -well-known settler of the Waitahora district. Mrs MacDonald was born in Glasgow in 1860 and came to New Zealand 66 years ago.
The death occurred at Mount Eden, Auckland ,of Mrs Melina Philson Inglis, widow of the Rev. G. B. Inglis. Mrs Inglis, who was in her 92nd year, was born in Auckland. Her parents came to Auckland in 1843. In her girlhood she went to Otago with her mother and started the first Maori school at Wilshire Bay, near Port Molyneux. She resigned that position to marry the Rev. G. B. Inglis, of Warepa, in 1883. Her husband died seven years ago, and she is survived by two sons.
