FOR LOST GARRISON ON ATTU WHOLE FORCE BELIEVED TO HAVE PERISHED. IN ATTEMPTING FINAL BLOW. (By Telegraph—Press Association —Copyright) (Received This Day, 12.5 p.m.) NEW YORK, May 30. The Tokio radio says that since May 29, communication has ceased between Attu and Tokio. An Imperial headquarters communique says: “Our garrison on Attu dauntlessly fought against the American force, but finally, on May 29, gave its final blow against the enemy and the entire number of about two thousand and several hun>. dred soldiers fought bravely and perished. Since May 12, our garrison on Attu had been carrying out decisive battles against a superior force. However, on May 29, it was decided to carry out a final blow against the enemy’s main force, so that the true nature of our gallapt imperial force can show the enemy. We commenced a gallant offensive. Since then communication has been completely cut off. It is thought that the entire nuumber of our force completely perished. Those who were wounded and unable to participate in the offensive killed themselves preceding the final offensive. Colonel Yasuoy Yamazaki commanded the troops. The damage inflicted on the enemy to May 28 was at least 6,000. Kiska is still in our hands. About 2,000 Japanese defended Attu. The enemy totalled 20,000.”
