OTHER PEOPLE’S IDEAS
POWER RESTRICTIONS ‘ " (T o the Editor.) Sir,—May I voice a protest against the action of the Wairarapa Electric Power Board in cutting down the hours of the electric water heaters, while leaving the shops throughout the Wairarapa in a blaze of light for four unnecessary hours every Friday night? I wonder how many units are wantonly wasted every week by the shops in this way. Let the Power Board cut out both the shop lighting after 5 o’clock and the dance hall lighting altogether, and the water heater users will gladly suffer in silence. —Yours, etc., “WATTS A WATT.” Masterton, May 31. CHARGES & SAVINGS (To the Editor.) Sir, —Two suggestions for saving electricity:—(l) Double the charges to the consumers. It would make the thoughtless think. (2) Make it an offence to have any lights on after 11 p.m. other than in hospitals and essential industry. If everyone was to retire earlier they would give a far greater war service than we are giving now. It is a well known fact that our young people are not getting nearly enough rest or sleep these days. The extra revenue that would be made by the Power Board should, I think, be handed to our returned men after the war is over. —Yours, etc., COLD WATER. Masterton, May 29.
