Mr P. H. G. Bennett, formerly of Masterton, has been elected to represent the Wellington-East Coast district on the Dominion executive of the N.Z.R.S.A.

Mr R. O. C. Marks, M.A., D.C.M., has been nominated by the executive of the Wanganui branch of the Real Democracy movement to contest the Wanganui seat at the general elections. MiMarks has been on the staff of Wanganui Collegiate School since 1928. The funeral of Mrs R. Y. S. Williams took place on Saturday afternoon, the Rev. David McNeur officiating at her late residence, 45 Colombo Road, and at the Masterton cemetery. Among the floral tributes was a wreath from the Riverside Golf Club. The pall-bearers were Messrs R. W. Harris, J. Barr, H. J. Fairchild and J. Bunny.

Captain Cyril S. Pepper. M.C., aged 31, died in the Wellington Public Hospital yesterday morning, following severe head injuries received when he fell from a fourth-story window of a block of flats in Salamanca Road, Kelburn. He was married with one child. Captain Pepper, who was a member of the All Black side to visit Great Britain in 1935, went overseas with the Second Echelon to England, and then to the Middle East, where he served with distinction, gaining the Military Cross for bravery. He served throughout with the artillery. Through being run over by a truck while in a shallow trench he was severely hurt. He was invalided back to New Zealand, arriving in June, 1940. and became a staff officer at Army Headquarters. The funeral of the late Mrs E. Kebbell, which took place on Saturday, was largely attended by settlers from the surrounding districts. The services at St. Aidan’s Church, Alfredton, and at the Masterton cemetery, were conducted by the Rev. J. McW. Mutter, vicar of Eketahuna. Among the many beautiful floral tributes received were those from the employees of “Te Hoe” Station, Alfredton Rifle Club, parishioners of St. Aidan’s Church, directors of Messrs Levin and Co., Wellington, and the manager and staff of Messrs Levin and Co., Masterton. The pall-bearers at St. Aidan’s Church were Messrs F. G. Lewis, A. C. P. Hay, W. Edmonds, G. M. Kebbell, E. Bousfleld and W. Deeds, and at the Masterton cemetery, Messrs A. Sclanders, I. Pearce, F. G. Lewis, R. W. Kebbell, A. C. P. Hay and W. Edmonds.
