ASSURED AT LAST
UNITY OF FRENCH EMPIRE DRAMATIC BROADCAST BY DE GAULLE. CONDITIONS OF EMERGENCE FROM ABYSS. (British Official Wireless.) (Received This Day, 11.40 a.m.) RUGBY. May 27. _ General de Gaulle, in a dramatic broadcast to France, said: “The unity of the French Empire is at hand—unity which will liberate cur country and restore it to its grandeur. At last the moment has come when the intense will of the nation, overcoming all obstacles, will bring about the unity of the Empire.” The spiritual unity of France, General de Gaulle added., had already been recreated, and it was up to the French to see that their chains were struck off by their own hands, through common struggle and sacrifice. General de Gaulle spoke of absurd divisions that separated the people of France and said they had paid heavily enough for them to realise that they could only emerge from the abyss by forming one solid block.
