PUBLIC NOTICES. TARARUA ELECTRIC POWER BOARD. PURSUANT to the Electricity Control Order, 1943, Serial Number 1943/78, PUBLIC NOTICE is hereby given that, on and after May 27, 1943, the use of any electric radiator or other electric space-heating appliance or equipment is totally prohibited at any time between 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. on any day of the week except Sunday in the months of May, June, July, August and September in any year in the following classes of premises:— (a) Shops, offices, factories, warehouses and other business premises. (b) Public and private hotels. (c) Halls, theatres and other places of amusement. (d) Premises occupied by any of His Majesty’s naval, military or air forces, or any other armed force that is for the time being lawfully present in New Zealand. (e) Premises occupied by any Government department or office. The above restriction does not apply to any hospital. No person shall, at any time of the day or night, except where the order so provides, use or cause to be used electricity from any public supply of electricity to operate any appliance or equipment for: — (a) Exterior sign lighting. (b) Interior sign lighting other than utility sign lighting.’ (c) Interior or exterior outline or orna- ■ mental lighting. (d) Floodlighting any exterior part of any building. (e) Under-verandah lighting other than community lighting. (f) Community lighting, except on the statutory late night during the period between half an hour after sunset and 9 p.m. (g) Shop-window lighting either in excess of an average of 10 watts for each foot of window frontage or outside the period between half an hour after sunset and 9 p.m.' on any day. (h) The interior lighting of island or wall or counter’ showcases. (i) The interior lighting of any theatre, concert-hall, dance-hall, cabaret, skating-rink, public or private hotel lounge, or hotel bar in excess of 60 watts for each 100 square feet of floor area in any case where the lighting appliance or equipment was in operation before the commencement of this Order, or in excess of 40 watts for each 100 square feet of floor area in any other case. (j) The interior lighting of any shop, milk-bar, restaurant or dining room in excess of 100 watts for each 100 square feet of floor space. Provisions in the order allow the following exemptions:— (a) The provision of such lighting as 1 may be required for safety at any entrance or exit to any premises. (b) Under-veranda lighting (other than sign lighting) at theatres, concert halls, dance halls or cabarets during the hours of darkness for the period of thirty minutes immediately before and the period of fifteen minutes immediately after any programme of entertainment. No street lighting system operated by any local authority or public body is allowed to exceed in any month 80 per cent of the consumption of the total number’ of units consumed by that system during the corresponding month of the year 1940. WARNING. Warning is given that if any person or persons is found not to be taking all necessary steps to ensure adequate compliance with the foregoing requirements, the Power Board may, under the authority of the Order, disconnect or seal up, at the expense of the owner or occupier, all electrical equipment in the premises which does not comply with the requirements of the Order.
