SOYA BEANS
POSSIBILITIES IN NEW ZEALAND
The growing of soya beans. in New Zealand on a more extensive scale was advocated by Mr Earl A. Emmerson, representing the United States War Production Board, who is a member of an Anglo-American mission visiting New Zealand, when interviewed at Eltham. With Sir John McLean Duncannon, controller of iron and steel supplies for the United Kingdom, Mr Emmerson is making a survey of the steel situation in four Empire countries. Mr Emmerson said that from what he had seen there was no reason why soya beans could not be grown in New Zealand. Tn the United States the growing of the beans was becoming a great and expanding industry. Full advantage should be taken of their food and oil production value. Both visitors emphasised the need for more production of butter, cheese and meat of all kinds, and, although satisfied up to a point at what had been done, said that still more was needed.
