Miss Barbara Fleury, Kimbolton, is the guest of Mrs A. C. Major, Upper Plain.
Mr E. T. Tirikatene, M.P. for Southern Maori, was sworn in yesterday by the Governor-General, Sir Cyril Newall, as a member of the Executive Council representing the Native race. Mr W. H. Price, chairman of the Wellington Harbour Board for the past two years, was unanimously re-elected to fill the office for a further-12 months at the statutory meeting of the board last night. High tributes were paid by speakers to the work of Mr Pr’ice, who, in returning thanks, said he had received the help of an excellent staff.
The funeral of the late Mrs R. A. Pratt took place yesterday afternoon, the Rev H. Taepa officiating at the residence and cemetery. Wreaths were sent by the employees of Allen's Sawmill, drivers of Wairarapa Transport. Ltd. .Tiraumea girls’ hockey team and others. The pall-bearers were Messrs G. Harding, W. Holes, Corporal F. W. Shaw, U.S.M.C., and Trooper Herbert Clayton.
