BOWLING YEAR

PARK CLUB’S ANNUAL MEETING

PROVISION FOR INCREASED ACCOMMODATION.

BOROUGH DELEGATES ATTEND

There was a good attendance of members at the annual meeting of the Park Bowling Club on Monday night. The president, Mr A. Osborne, welcomed Councillors H. E. Gardiner and R. Russell, the Borough Council delegates, who were in attendance to discuss with the members the question of improved pavilion accommodation. Now that the club membership had increased to well over 70 active members, it was consideerd that the time had arrived for improved facilities. Any building impovement would be an added asset to the borough. The council's proposals, as submitted by the two delegates, were listened to with interest. The club was granted permission to erect a suitable building and guaranteed, as far as the council by-laws permitted, a reasonable tenure of the playing area. The council proposals were comprehensive and a vote of thanks to the delegates was carried by acclamation. Mr Osborne congratulated the members upon the successful and harmonious season that' had just concluded and expressed the hope that the next season would be equally if not more successful. The election of officers resulted: — Patron, Mr J. Coe; president and treasurer, Mr A. Osborne; vice-president and hon secretary, Mr H. M. Smith; hon auditor, Mr A. Wiltshire; sole selector, Mr C. Andrews; committee, Messrs T. Newton, H. Duckworth, C. Moore, W. Drummond, W. Winhall and E. Brown; club coach, Mr H. Carr. Messrs A. E. Kilgour, E. Bell and W. Gibson, in recognition of excellent administrative service to the club since its inception, were unanimously elected life members. Many speakers referred in eulogistic terms to the splendid work of these men. The secretary was instructed to forward a letter of sympathy to Mr W. Davies, who was laid aside with sickness.

It was decided to revert to the two life system in championship games. It was also decided to place a time limit on each round to be played. Mr Jenkins, it was stated, had spent much time in research of the club records in order to ascertain the championship winners since the inception of the club. It was'agreed that this data be used in the procuring of a suitable honours board.

The subscriptions were fixed at the same as last year. Mr Carr submitted a set of rules compiled for the playing of the “drawing game” and it was decided to adopt these to govern challenges for the McKenzie Buttons. The president reported upon the visit of Mr Crawford towards the end of the season for the purpose of advising top-dressing procedure. Votes of thanks, carried by acclamation, were passed to Mr Carr for attending to afternoon tea arrangements; Mr Macpherson for attending to supplies of refreshments; Mr Andrews for organising the fortnightly progressive pairs tournaments; Mr McErlich for the fitting of new cutters to the coring machines; the publicity officer, Mr H. M. Smith, for reports submitted throughout the season, and to the Press. The following trophies were presented:—W.F.C.A. Cup (championship singles), H. M. Smith; Daniell Cup (New Zealand v Overseas), H. M. Smith (selector of N.Z.); Thompson Cup, G. Brown; Spackman Cup, J. Heath and J. Griffiths (equal); P. Smith (progressive pairs), skips, A. E.
