Mrs D. G. McHardy, Perry Street, is visiting Hawke’s Bay.

Mrs W. Laing, Tinui, has returned from a visit to Raumati Beach. Mrs Anderson, Wanganui, is staying with her daughter, Miss E. Anderson, Coradine Street.

Mr C. R. Nicolson, secretary of Hallenstein Brothers, Ltd., has been appointed to the Board of Directors. The engagement is announced of Thelma, younger daughter of Mr and Mrs J. W. T. Jones, Lansdowne, to L.A.C. Lindsay Budge, R.N.Z.A.F., younger son of Mr and Mrs A. Budge, of Westmere, Wanganui.

Among a recent list of immediate awards to members of the Second N.Z.E.F. serving overseas, is the name of Sergeant J. Ross, whose next-of-kin is his father, Mi’ F. E. Ross, Ohau. Seigeant Ross, who received the Military Medal, is well known in the Wairarapa, where he was manager of “Kumukumu” station.

The death occurred in Wellington recently of Mr David James Fyfe, who had been engaged in the silk trade in various parts of New Zealand for more than 50 years. Born at Gleniti, Timaru, in 1874, Mr Fyfe received his early training in Timaru and Dunedin, later going to England for two years to gain business experience. On his return he was employed by Kirkcaldie and Stains, Ltd., first in Napier and then in Wellington, till in 1927, when he went into business on his own account. Of i-ecent years he was a member of the Kelburn Bowling Club.

The death has occurred in Auckland of Mr Charles Leonard Barnard, who was born in Wellington 80 years ago. Mr Barnard began his career as a watchmaker and jeweller in 1883, and carried on his business in various parts of the North Island till his retirement in 1917. Subsequently he lived at Helensville, and in later years in Auckland. For’ many years he took a keen interest in affairs of the Masonic order. He is survived by his wife, two sons and one daughter. His elder son is the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mr Barnard.
