CANADA’S WAR GIFT

TO EMPIRE AND ALLIES. OTTAWA, May 14. Giving details of shipments to Britain under the 1,000,000,000 dollar gift, the Minister of Finance, Mr J. L. Ilsley, informed the Canadian House of Commons that the total comprised 689,000,000 dollars in munitions- of war, and 311,000,000 dollars in foodstuffs and raw materials. Of the total, supplies to the value of 61,000,000 dollars, had, it was known, been transferred to Russia (including tanks and armoured fighting vehicles to the value of 49,000,000 dollars, shells and ammunition to the value of 3,000,000 dollars and base metals to the value of 9,000,000 dollars), and mechanical transport to the value of 71,000,000 dollars to Australia, New Zealand and other parts of the sterling area.
