SUCCESSFUL ATTACK

ON ENEMY SEA CONVOY OFF THE DUTCH COAST. MADE BY BEAUFIGHTERS & SPITFIRES. (British Official Wireless.) (Received This Day, 10.50 a.m.) RUGBY, May 24. Torpedo-carrying Beaufighters continued their assault on enemy shipping today, when they attacked a convoy of six merchantmen and 12 escort vessels, south-bound off the Dutch coast, states the Air Ministry news service. A Beaufighter wing, escorted by Spitfires of the Fighter Command, attacked the supply ships with torpedoes, but because of very poor visibility it was difficult to observe the results, although it is believed that one merchant vessel was sunk. Meanwhile an attack with bombs and cannon fire was made by Beaufighters on the escort ships, many of which were hit. One Beaufighter is missing.
