The attack was considerably heavier than any yet delivered on Germany. Thirty-eight of our bombers are missing.’’ The last attack on Dortmund was on May 4, when more four-engined bombers were used than ever before, and 30 of them were lost. Up to last night the heaviest raid of the war was made on May 14, when more than 1500 ton_s of bombs was dropped on Duisburg, also in the Ruhr.
After Essen. Dortmund is the largest town in the Ruhr. Its 500,000 inhabitants are mainly employed in the iron, steel, and synthetic oil industries, which have been working at double pressure since the devastation of Essen.
