Air-raid Shelter Work Stopped.

All work on air-raid shelters in Wellington city has been stopped. That does not mean that every shelter has been completed; but that an order has been received from the higher authorities, who require the labour so engaged for other purposes. Basketball Contests. At the Wairarapa Interhouse Association’s indoor basketball competition to be held in the Y.M.C.A., Masterton, on Monday night, it is stated that the matches should prove particularly interesting as evenly matched teams will be competing. Sale of Liquor. For selling liquor without a licence from a motor truck in Cumberland Place, Wellington, Alan Edward McEwen was fined £lO by Mr Goulding, S.M., in the Magistrates’ Court yesterday. The fact that his lorry was in the vicinity of a dance hall cost him a further £4. Interhouse Dance. There was a splendid attendance at the Wairarapa Interhouse Association’s dance which was held in the Masonic Hall, Masterton, last night. Bright music was supplied by Mrs V. J. Ashton’s orchestra and Messrs L. Askew and F. Stains capably carried out the duties of M’s.C. A Monte Carlo waltz was won by Miss D’Arcy and Private Davis of the Marine Corps. Supper was served by the Interhouse girls. At the dance to be held next Friday night a special feature will be a waltzing competition.
