The Tokio radio lias announced that Admiral Eisuke Yamamoto, Commander-in-Chief of the Combined Japanese Fleets, was killed in a warplane during an air duel with the enemy last month while directing strategic operations. The radio stated that Admiral Togo has succeeded him. Yamamoto was the commander who planned the attack on Pearl Harbour. He is said to have boasted that he would dictate peace terms to the United States from the White House in Washington. He was a firm believer in sea and air power, and he commanded the Japanese air arm from 1938 to 1940.
