ADDINGTON MARKET

FAT CATTLE PRICES EASIER. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, May 19. At the Addington market there were large entries in most sections, with the exception of the porker entry, which was the smallest for some time. Owing to lack of competition from butchers porker prices showed an appreciable decline. Fat cattle were in large supply and far exceeded the demand, prices showing a definite weakening. Fat sheep showed little change in prices. The fat sheep yarding was 4000 against 6000 last week. The quality of the ewes was again mixed, but tlfe sale all round showed a slight increase on recent values. Highest price for ewes was 32s for a pen of twe-tooths, but most of the sales ranged from 20s to 255. Freezing buyers were again active, and prices generally were up to schedule limits. Some good lines of wethers were forward, two trucks making from 32s 7d to 36s lOd, averaging 34s 6d. The arge entry of 660 fat cattle com-, prised mixed quality, many showing the effects of the continued dry weather. The market showed a further weakening on the lower values of last week, and there was little beef, which realised 40s per 1001 b. Plain heavy steers sold at from 35s to 375, and secondary beef to 345. Cow beef sold cheaply. The entry of porkers was one of the smallest for a long period, but owing to lack of competition from butchers there was an easing of from 5s to 7s a head. The average price per lb. was Bd. Choppers were in heavy supply, but values were higher by 10s to 15s a head. The bacon entry was small and bidding was not as spirited as at recent sales. Values were down by 3s to 4s a head; average price 7%d to Bd.
