CALEDONIAN SOCIETY
FIRST INGLESIDE OF SEASON. PRESENTATION TO MR PITHER. The Wairarapa Caledonian Society held its first Ingleside this season in the Masonic Hall, Masterton, last night. There was a splendid attendance of members and their friends and the warm atmosphere of friendship in the hall was in contrast to the cold night. The music was supplied by Mr J. Barnes’s orchestra and the duties of M.C. were capably carried out' by Messrs J. J. Hunter and J. W. Henderson. Pipe Major Murdo McKenzie played the music for the Scottish dancing. In the absence of the patron, Mr T. Arcus, the address to the haggis was ably rendered by the new president, Mr Jock McKenzie. The haggis was piped in in true Scottish style by Pipe Major Murdo McKenzie. A savoury supper was served by the ladies’ committee. Mrs Bell kindly made the haggis. During the supper interval Mr H. E. Pither,, past president, was presented with his past president's badge. Mr Pither thanked directors, members and particularly the ladies’ committee for the wonderful assistance they had given him over the past two years. The Wairarapa Caledonian Society was founded 67 years ago and is one of the oldest societies in the Wairarapa that has continued its activities since the early days.
