RUGBY FOOTBALL

FRIENDLY MATCHES AT CARTERTON. PLAY OF A PROMISING NATURE. The Rugby football games played at Carterton on Saturday between A and B teams representing the Carterton and Masterton Football Clubs resulted in a win for Carterton in both grades. Carterton A won by 3 points to nil, and Carterton B by 14 points to nil. The A game started off with plenty of bright open play by the Masterton backs, but heavy rain throughout the greater part of the game made the ball hard to handle, and play developed into a scramble. However, both sides made the best of conditions, and towards the close of the game Carterton crossed the line and scored an unconverted try which won them the game. Considering that the matches were the first this season, play was quite promising.
