RED CROSS SOCIETY MONTHLY CARD TOURNEY. (“Times-Age” Special.) The Red Cross Sub-Centre held its monthly flag 500 card tourney in the Anglican Hall. There was a good attendance. The games were conducted by Mr L. C. Christie. The prize-win-ners were:—Mrs W. Cittadini. Messrs Castledene, A. Southey and C. Buckeridge. The supper was served by the ladies’ committee. WOMEN’S INSTITUTES MEETING AT HASTWELLS. Mrs K. Ngatuere presided over a fair attendance of members at the monthly meeting of the Hastwells Women's Institute held on Wednesday. Mrs L. H. Morris was appointed as delegate to the Gisborne, conference, with Miss Halberg as deputy. Ten tins of biscuits were made to send to soldiers. The winners in the biscuit competition were:—Seniors: Mrs E. G. Sigvertsen, 1; Mrs Madsen, 2; Mrs Morris, 3. Juniors: Miss Elva Dick, 1; Miss Eileen Larsen, 2. The flower competition resulted: Mrs E. G. Sigvertsen, 1; Miss Olga Halberg, 2; Mrs Claude Seymour, 3. A game organised by Miss O. Halberg was won by Mrs K. Ngatuere. The motto was read by Mrs Claude Seymour, and the roll call by Miss E. Dick was “Your favourite picture with the main actor.” Miss E. Larsen and Miss H. Madsen acted as hostesses. Personal. Mr L. C. Christie, who has been manager of the Bank of New South Wales for several years, has been transferred to Patea. Miss A. Anderson, who has been on | a visit to New Plymouth, has returned j home. : Mr and Mrs A. H. Herbert and Mr and Mrs M. R. Herbert, have returned home after having been on a visit to the Marlborough Sounds. Mrs Doughtey, Waverley. is visiting Mrs J. Monaghan, Newman. Mrs Houlbrooke has been on a visit to her son, Mr H. A. Houlbrooke, Woodville. Flight Lieutenant D. R. Salter and Mrs Salter are the guests of Mr and Mrs Gray, High Street, Parkville. ! Mrs Butcher Senr.. Palmerston' North, is the guest of her son, Mr D. Butcher. Hastwell Street.
