WAIRARAPA P. & A. SOCIETY ANNUAL MEETING. PREPARATIONS FOR SPRING SHOW. (“Times-Age” Special.) The president, Mr J. A. McLeod, presided over an attendance of between 30 and 40 members at the annual meeting of the Wairarapa P. and A. Society held in the King's Theatre, Carterton, on Saturday. Mr McLeod referring to the year’s activities, said everyone knew what had happened during the past few weeks of the war and it must be realised they were in a happier frame of mind than was the case 12 months ag'o. During the year the committee had continued to function, and on many occasions only skeleton meetings took place, but the flag was kept flying. The disastrous earthquake of 1942 had damaged the society's building in Carterton and it would mean an expenditure of over £2OOO to repair the offices. He thanked members of the committee who had attended meetings during the year. The showgrounds were available for the society’s use again and it was pleasing to know that a show would be hold this year. Although it might not be of its usual size, the public could be assured it would be a worth while function and he hoped members would do their best in the way of exhibits. He thanked the committee men and their secretary, Mr L. H. Smart, for their work' during the year. He also thanked Mr Brown (treasurer), all who had helped with their subscriptions and the Press for its help at all times. Last year was the first time since 1871, that the society had been unable to hold a show. He had no doubts that everything in the future would go well with the society. (Applause). Air G. Brown spoke at length regarding show matters. It was pleasing to know, he said, that their Wellington friends had assisted the soqjety with their usual donations and that many members had paid last year’s subscriptions which would be earmarked for the renovation of re-erection of the damaged offices. Mr W. Howard Booth said he was sure they would have a good show in October and that members would put fheir shoulders to the wheel and make it so. It would be necessary for the' programme committee to overhaul the schedule and cut outfall sections that had not been profitable. There were enough breeders in the Wairarapa to warrant a good show. Mr Smart assured the meeting that when the offices were repaired the building would be practically earthquake proof. Officers were re-elected as follow: — President, Mr J. A. McLeod; vicepresidents, Messrs O. A. Cadwallader I and V. L. Robinson; treasurer, Mr Geo. Brown; auditor, Mr H. M. B. Trapp; general committee, Messrs G. E. Allen, P. Bain, H. J. Bassett, A. E. The treasurer's statement showed a J credit balance at the bank of £227 10s 1 7d. Two applications were received for the position of caretaker of the showgrounds. The matter was left to the ground committee to deal with. It was decided to send a letter of appreciation to Mr Amundsen for his services while acting as caretaker. One new member was proposed and three resignations received. 1 It was decided that the next meet- 1 ing of the general committee be held on the second Saturday in June and thereafter on the third Saturday in < each month and that the meeting be at e 10 a.m. during the winter months. 1
