ALFREDTON

PERSONAL ITEMS ("Times-Age” Special.) Mr William Brannigan is visiting Rotorua. Mr and Mrs Malmo have been visiting Mr and Mrs Seymour. Mr and Mrs Taverner are spending the school holidays at Nelson. Miss Cave is visiting Gladstone and Christchurch during the school holidays. Mr and Mrs W. Walker are spending a holiday at Castlepoint. Mrs Hutchings was the guest of Mrs V. Payne for the week-end. Miss J. McKenzie is the guest of Mrs J. Hartley. Miss S. Napier has returned home from Wellington after a few months of V.A.D. nursing. Games Night. The Patriotic Society held a most successful games night on Saturday evening. The winners of the euchre tourney were: Ladies, Miss Doyle, and men, Mr lan McDonald. Aggregate: Ladies, Mrs Doyle; booby, Mrs Godinagh, both prizes being donated by Mrs Low. Men’s aggregate: Mr R. Seymour (prize presented by Mi' W. Dickens); booby, Mr W. Rolls. A game of Chinese checkers, made and donated by Beauchamp Dickens for competition, was won by Richie Rolls. A jar of honey was won by Mr R. Eagle. The following goods were donated and auctioned: —Cabbage plants from Mr G. Napier, 4s; mixed vegetables from Mr Charlie Leach realised £1 7s; flowers from Mrs G. Napier, 2s; Mrs Algie, 6s, and Mrs Dickens, 4s; honey from Mrs Clee, 6s 3d. A letter was read from a soldier overseas, acknowledging a parcel received from the Patriotic Society. The hostesses were Mrs G. Napier and Miss S. Napier. The ladies to bake biscuits, either shortbread or ginger biscuits, for overseas parcels for this month, are Mrs J. Cooper, Mrs Hurford and Miss E. McLean.
