GAINED BY AMERICANS IN SOLOMONS SIXTEEN ZEROS SHOT DOWN AND TWO MORE PROBABLY DESTROYED. AT COST OF FIVE PLANES. LONDON, May 14. In the South Pacific, American fighters attacked about 20 Japanese Zeros near Russell Island. Sixteen of the Japanese planes were shot down and two more probably destroyed. Five American aircraft were lost.
