MEETING OF EXECUTIVE FINANCIAL MEMBERSHIP. SOLDIERS’ PLOT IN MASTERTON CEMETERY. The monthly meeting of the central executive of the Wairarapa Returned Services’ Association was held in Masterton last night, the president, Mr H. J. Brass, being in the chair. There were also present: Messrs F. Shearer, H. G. Alexander, L. T. Wylie, H. Nuttall, J. D. O'Connor, E. L. Nicholson (Masterton); C. A. Chennells, A. G. Rabbits (Carterton); Miss Higginson (Greytown), Messrs J. W. Fellingham and J. A. Halpin (Featherston). Apologies for absence were received from Messrs Thomas and Mason (Martinborough). The names of Messrs C. A. Chennells and G. W. Brandon (Featherston) were submitted to Dominion Headquarters of the R.S.A. as nominees for the Lands Sub-committee of the N.Z.R.S.A. It was reported that a meeting of members of the Second N.Z.E.F. was held in Masterton recently when, a number of recommendations regarding the welfare and discharge of soldiers of the present war were made. The recommendations were being given effeet to. Members expressed pleasure with the returns disclosed in the report regarding the Poppy Day appeal. It was stated that the financial membership of the Wairarapa R.S.A. for the first month of the present financial year was 390. At March 31, the membership of the New Zealand R.S.A. was 42,167 of which 3,644 were returned from the present war. Nine new members were elected to the local association, five members being from the Second N.Z.E.F. The draft plan of the proposed layout of a new soldiers’ plot at the Mas- ( terton Cemetery was adopted and it was decided to ask the Borough Council to approve it. As the meeting was the last of the present executive Mr Brass, the retiring president, thanked members for their loyal support.
