Mr S. G. Holland, Leader of the Opposition, who- has been visiting the Auckland province, will return to Wellington tomorrow. , Canon H. E. K. Fry is to be instituted and inducted vicar of Otaki at All Saints Church. Otaki, in the evening of Ascension Day, June 3. Mrs A. N. Grigg, M.P., who recently returned to her home at Surrey Hills after hospital treatment, is expected to attend the resumption of the session of Parliament next week. Miss C. E. Robinson, Christchurch, was elected president of the New Zealand Technical School Teachers’ Association at the annual conference of the association in Wellington yesterday. Mr H. J. Brass (president) and Mr A. E. Prentice (secretary), of the Wairarapa R.S.A., have been appointed delegates to attend the Dominion Council meeting of the New Zealand R.S.A. at Wellington on May 26. Mrs Jessie Watt, of Hastings, attained her 102nd birthday today. With the exception of one short interval, she resided in Wanganui for 79 years, but more recently has lived at Hastings. She enjoyed excellent health till she met with an accident about three years ago. At a staff gathering of the Masterton Printing Company, held yesterday afternoon, presentations were made to Miss Una Holtham, who has severed her connection with the company to join the Women’s Royal Naval Service. Mr J. J. Hunter paid a tribute to Miss Holtham’s service and capabilities, and said the company was sorry to lose her services. Miss Holtham had been a member of the staff of the “Wairarapa Age” and had continued her service with the Masterton Printing Company. The presentation of a travelling case from the staff and a cheque from the company was made, for which the recipient returned thanks. The funeral of the late Mrs E. A. Clement took place in Masterton yesterday afternoon, the service at the Chapel and that at the graveside being conducted by the Ven. Archdeacon E. J. Rich. There was a large attendance of mourners. Wreaths were sent by the officers, n.c.o’s. and men of the Browning Machine Gun Platoon of the Home Guard, the old C Company of the Home Guard, Upper Plain Women’s Institute, managers of the Upper Plain Water Supply and staff of Messrs Yates Stores Ltd., besides many others from private sympathisers The pall-bearers were Messrs E. Little, N. Pelvin, R. Read and T. H. Horton.
