BUTTER RATIONING

POSITION IN AUSTRALIA.

(By Telegraph—Press Association— Copyright) ‘ (Received This Day, 12.40 p.m.) MELBOURNE. This Day.

Federal Ministers would not confirm the hint of the New Zealand Minister of Agriculture (Mr Barclay) that butter rationing is possible in New Zealand and Australia to help Britain. Mr Scully said butter rationing would not be introduced in Australia unless as a result of adverse seasonal conditions and a shortage of manpower in the dairying districts. At present milk and butter production in Australia is at its lowest ebb for a long time, on account of a lack of rain in January, February and March.
