BAD DAY FOR U-BOATS

FIVE SENT TO BOTTOM IN ATLANTIC , WHILE ATTEMPTING ATTACK ON CONVOY. ONE DESTROYED BY “NEW WEAPON.” LONDON. May 11. Further news of the battle of the Atlantic was given in Washington today. Last Thursday a pack of U-boats attacked a westward bound convoy, but they were soon fighting on the defensive. Five U-boals were sunk and others damaged. A great part of the attacking force would never get back to its base. Prisoners were taken. Escort vessels rammed two of the Üboats, a third blew up after being hit by shells, depth charges accounted for a fourth and Washington says a fifth was sunk by a new weapon.
