Bennett, Essex Street, has returned to Wellington. Mr R. E. Gordon Lee (chairman) and Mr J. C. D. Mackley (County Clerk) will represent the Masterton County Council at the New Zealand Counties’ Association annual conference at Wellington at the end of July. The engagement is announced of Gwendoline Margaret Court, youngest daughter of Mr and Mrs. D. W. Finlayson, Masterton, to William Lester, eldest son of Mr and Mrs. W.L. Steffens, New Jersey, U.S.A. Among those mentioned in dispatches for service in the field overseas are two ex-Masterton residents, Major Cecil C. Johansen, now a prisoner-of-war, and Temporary Captain Colin B. Currie, who died of wounds on October 29, 1942. A most enjoyable evening was spent at the St. Patrick’s Hall, Masterton, last night when Miss Mary Hamill was tendered a “kitchen tea” in honour of her approaching marriage. Mr J. Barnes supplied the music for the dancing and Mr P. Ryan was M.C. ’ Items were given by Elizabeth Keisenberg. Supper was served. The host- ! esses were Mesdames T. Hanley, J. 1 Hanley, W. Spring, J. Griffiths and D. Hogan.
