PERSONAL ITEMS (“Times-Age” Special.) Mr and Mrs G. E. Yule have received official advice that their son, Allister has reached his destination overseas. Aircraftman Eric Houston has entered a South Island Air Force camp. Mrs K. B. McClellan and her son Richard, of Rotorua, are spending the school holidays with Mrs R. Charles. Miss N. Carlyon has arrived home from Whakatane for the term holidays.

OBITUARY The death occurred at Somme Parade, Wanganui, of Mrs Eliza Haldane Lawrence, wife of Mr James Lawrence and mother of Mr J. A. B. Lawrence of Carterton. She was well known in this town where she resided for many years before going to live at Wanganui. The late Mrs Lawrence had very many friends in Carterton who will hear with regret of her death, which occurred at the age of 84 years. The late Mrs Lawrence had lived in New Zealand for nearly 80 years, having arrived from Scotland as a child with hex’ parents, the late Mr and Mrs William Crawford, Seatoun, Forfarshire, as private passengers in the ship West Australia. They settled first in Wellington, where her father was the original owner of land in Hawker and Owen streets purchased from the N.Z. Land Company at its first sale of land held in London in 1839. After a short residence in Wellington and Happy Valley, the Crawford family settled at Carterton, Wairarapa, where Mrs Lawrence was married to James Lawrence, of Lerwick, Shetland Islands, in 1884. For the past 30 years, Mrs Lawrence had lived at Wanganui.

She is survived by a family of four sons and three daughters, a large number of grandchildren and great-grand-children. Two of her sons predeceased her. Of her grandsons, Lieut. A. W. Lawrence and Sub-Lieut. J. H. McK. Lawrence are serving in the Fleet Air Arm, Lieut. R. S. Lawrence in the N.Z.E.F. Overseas and Flying Officer W. R. C. Lawrence in the R.N.Z.A.F. Flight Lieutenant W Crawford-Comp-ton. D.F.C. and Bar, N.Z. Fighter Squadron Overseas is a great-nephew. Personal. A parcel evening will be tendered to Miss Eileen Pinfold at the Masonic Hall tomorrow evening in honour of her approaching marriage. Card Tournament. The Labour Committee’s card tournament held on Saturday evening was well attended. The prize-winners were Mesdames C. Holland, A. Pauling, Mr Knutson and Mrs Thompson. Euchre Tourney. An enjoyable time was spent on Monday at the Red Cross rooms, when the weekly euchre tournament was held. Mrs Baker was the winner. COSY THEATRE MERRY MUSICAL COMEDY. . “She’s My Lovely,” described as a merry musical comedy overflowing with the gaiety and vitality of youth, will be shown at the Cosy Theatre on Wednesday night. Gloria Jean and Donald O’Connor are in the featured roles.
