ARMED FORCES

APPEAL BOARD SITTING WAIRARAPA CASES. SEVERAL ADJOURNMENTS MADE. The No. 2 Armed Forces Appeal Board (Napier) commenced a sitting in the Masterton Courthouse today. There were present: Messrs H. B. Lusk (chairman), F. R. Field, W. H. Barry and J. C. Corbishley (secretary and Crown representative). Mr R. W. Kebbell watched proceedings on behalf of the Wairarapa Primary Production Council. After an appeal had been heard, Mr R. R. Burridge said that it was an extraordinary thing that the Army did not have a schedule available of the names of unfit men who could be taken for farm work to release grade I. men from the farms.

Mr Lusk said that steps were being taken along the lines indicated by Mr Burridge. Mr Kebbell said that the Army would not release the unfit men.

In the following cases the name of the person lodging the appeal is given in parentheses: Adjourned: Kenneth Frederick Joblin, farmer (Mrs Annie Joblin), to August, 1943; Leonard Alexander Burch, farm labourer (Basil Leonard Burch), to October 1, 1943; Herbert Hugh Williams, farm labourer (Herbert Linscott Williams), to October 1, 1943; Frederick Desmond Alleyne Meredith, shepherd (Wm. Alleyne Laird Meredith), to next sitting of board; James Alexander McLean, farm labourer (Est. James A. McLean); Thomas Oliver Bubb, farm hand (Walter Henry Bubb), to August 1, 1943. (Proceeding.)
