WOMEN’S INSTITUTE

MEETING AT OPAKI. (“Times-Age” Special.) The May- meeting of the Opaki Women’s Institute was held at the home of Mrs Beetham, who presided. Miss O. lorns gave a comprehensive report of the annual meeting of the Wairarapa Federation, held at Cartelton on April 16. A character sketch of General Sir Bernard Montgomery was read. The month’s competitions resulted: — Sewing: Mrs Mannell, 1; Mrs Beetham, 2; Mrs Wingate and Mrs Cooper, equal, 3. Cooking: Mrs Harris, 1; Mrs Beetham, 2; Mrs Jaine, 3. Best bloom: Mrs Wingate, 1; Mrs Harris, 2; Mrs Dagg, 3.

The June meeting will be held at “Oaklea,” the home of Mrs Harris. The competitions will be: Best bloom, handmade felt article, and biscuits, the biscuits to be suitable for sending to the Seamen’s Mission.
