MAURICEVILLE
WOMEN’S INSTITUTE MONTHLY MEETING OF MEMBERS. ("Times-Age” Special.) Mrs J. A. Baine (president) presided over the monthly meeting of the Mauriceville Women’s Institute which was held at the residence of Mrs Broadbent on Tuesday.. The roll call was “a joke suitable for the scrap book,” and was well responded to.
The president expressed her appreciation of the splendid work of members in connection with the recent “shop day” which had been an outstanding success.
Those present stood for a few moments as a mark of respect to the memory of the late Miss Gladys Heckler. Mrs Paine furnished a comprehensive report on the business dealt with at the Council meeting held at Carterton.
Mrs Geo. Wilson was appointed as delegate to the conference to be held at Gisborne in July. It was reported that another lot of soldiers’ parcels had been despatched since the April meeting and that a letter of appreciation in connection with a parcel 1 forwarded to him had been received from a local soldier. It was decided that parcels will be despatched more frequently, and that the number be increased by 100 per cent.
A trophy is to be given to the member who knits the highest number of ounces of wool for patriotic purposes throughout the year. The monthly competitions resulted: —Weight of 3 hen eggs: Mrs Nikolaison 1, Mrs McWhirter 2, Mrs'Geo. Wils'on 3. Best bloom: Mesdames F. Pain and C. Spackman 1, Mesdames Geo. Wilson and Broadbent 2. Votes of thanks were passed to the hostesses and to Mrs Broadbent. Personal Items. Mr and Mrs Colin Neilsen, who were recently married, have now returned to the district. Miss Mavis Tildesley is at present carrying out V.A.D. duties at the Patea hospital.
