Borstal Escapees Sentenced.
Two escapees from Point Halswell Borstal Institute, Miri Dorothy McLean Smith, aged 17, a waitress, and Noreen Vera Wadsworth, aged 19, also a waitress, appeared before Mr. J. L. Stout, S.M., in the Magistrate’s Court, Wellington, yesterday. The girls w'ere stated in evidence to have escaped at 6.30 on a recent morning and to have been apprehended at 11.30 a.m. 'the same day. Smith, whom the matron of the establishment said was the ringleader, was sentenced to six months’ imprisonment with hard labour, and Wadsworth to three months.
