WELFARE WORK
WOMEN’S NATIONAL LEAGUE
YEAR'S ACTIVITIES
REVIEWED IN ANNUAL REPORT.
The year's activities of the Women's National Welfare League are reviewed in the annual report, which states inter alia:—
“The Masterton Hospital has been visited fortnightly and everything possible has been done to make the visits a pleasure to the inmates. Reading matter, illustrated papers and flowers have been distributed to all wards and special cakes, etc., for afternoon tea at Nos. 6 and 7 Wards, with something for the evening meal at No. 6 Ward. I am sure all visiting members will join me in heartiest thanks to the Matron and nurses for their courteous treatment and kindness,” states the president, Miss M. A. Kummer, in her report. “We wish to thank Pages for receiving our parcels etc., and for helping us with provisions, and also Miss Butcher for similar help. We deeply appreciate the loyalty of our regular hospital visitors. “A visit was paid to the Buchanan Home in December, and a very happy time was spent. We were helped tremendously by people driving their own cars, and with very handsome donations—a beautiful Christmas cake, and more cakes, etc., than we had had before, despite the sugar rationing. The musical programme seemed to cheer and please every inmate, and, as usual, Mr Harry Hall's items were loudly applauded. A bouquet was presented to the matron, and flowers were distributed to everyone, also a Christmas card. We hope to arrange for a similar afternoon shortly. “Institute for the Blind. —This work goes quietly on in spite of war restrictions. Mrs Pither will be pleased to receive orders.
