ESPERANTO

MASTERTON CLUB.

FUTURE OF THE LANGUAGE.

The opinion that Esperanto was likely to play an important part in post-war reconstruction was expressed at the first meeting of the year of the Masterton Esperanto Club, held last night at 8 Short Street. The president, Mr E. J. Esler, remarked how the necessity for an international language was becoming more and more appreciated. For instance, at a recent political conference a resolution was passed urging the Government “to bring up the question of an international language at the Peace Conference.” “There can be no question,” said Mr Esler, “that Esperanto has proved itself the only language capable of filling this need.” A number of members reported at the meeting, which was the first of the weekly gatherings for study and practice to be held this winter, that several new members were expected to join the club, so that there is every prospect of a successful season. Following the drawing tip of a programme for study with special provision for the tuition of new members, 'a brief period of impromptu conversation was held.
