STATE THEATRE
“GASBAGS.” “Gasbags" will be finally shown tonight. “FANTASIA” Opinions about “Fantasia,” the Dis-ney-Stokowski production which will be shown tomorrow night at the State Theatre, will no doubt vary very much. But whatever opinion is held it is undoubtedly a magnificent picture, which, while appealing to all, will do so more particularly to those musically inclined. It is important that all attending “Fantasia” should be seated before curtain time as the picture does not start in the conventional manner. Tschaikovsky’s “Nutcracker Suite,” a Bach fugue, Beethoven’s “Pastoral Symphony,” Stravinsky’s “Rite of Spring.” Schubert's “Ave Maria,” and one or two other classics are magnificently played by the orchestra, and what these masterpieces suggest to Walt Disney is the visual counterpart to the music. Some of the animations are beautiful, some humorous, some grotesque, and some almost terrifying, but all reveal an extraordinary imagination which will appeal to many people, while others, while admitting the ambitious novelty of the production, will deprecate the desecration of good music. There will be matinees on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday afternoons.
