Mrs Hare, of Masterton, has been staying with her parents, Mr and Mrs E. J. Southey, Mangamaire.
Mrs O. King, of Palmerston North, has been elected Dominion president of the New Zealand Co-operative Women's Guild. She has for the past year been president of the Palmerston North Guild and r has served on the Dominion Council and also in the capacity of Assistant Dominion Secretary to Mrs S. J. Bennett. Mrs King is a keen worker for the Labour Party, and is president of the Palmerston North women’s branch.
Over one hundred guests were present at a “parcel evening” held in the Orange Hall on Saturday evening, in honour of Miss Mildred Emerson, who is to be married shortly. The hall was effectively decorated with autumn leaves and blossoms. In between the dancing items were rendered by Mrs H. Speight, Miss A. Davey and Master Davey. The music was supplied by Mr O. Thompson and M. Wallace, U.S.M.C. Cpl. A. W. P. Hancock, N.Z.R.A.F, and Mr McKay played extras. After supper Miss Emerson opened the parcels which contained varied and useful gifts. Mr J. D. Blundell, on behalf of Miss Emerson, suitably returned thanks. He also thanked the hostesses Mrs Blundell and Miss O’Hara for having provided such an enjoyable gathering.
