CARTERTON
P. AND A. SOCIETY ANNUAL REPORT. (“Times-Age” Special.) The annual report of the Wairarapa and East Coast Pastoral and Agricultural Society states inter alia:—The Society suffered a very severe set back in the earthquake of June 24, 1942, damage to the extent of approximately £2200 being done to the office building in Memorial Square, Carterton. After a long delay, through shortage of tradesmen caused by the demands of the army and defence work, a commencement has now been made on repairs. Of our total membership of 762 at March 31, 1942, 278 paid their subscriptions during the year. Rent received from the government for the showgrounds was sufficient to cover the unavoidable expenses of the society. An appeal was made for donations towards the cost of earthquake repairs,; the response beng very satisfactory, £173 13s being received. Our financial position as a result of the earthquake has deteriorated as follow:—Earthquake damage, £2200; less revenue reserve ac., £2O Is lOd; less net revenue office ac., £42 2s sd; less net revenue general ac., £1 9s Bd. In reduction of the above we have in hand from donations and subscriptions £464 towards the cost of earthquake repairs. Carterton Showgrounds. A start has been made with the cleaning up of the Carterton Showgrounds and long before the date for holding the show they should be in good order. Patriotic Dance. 1 The Carterton branch of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union will hold a dance in the State Theatre, Carterton, on Wednesday next. The proceeds will be devoted to patriotic purposes. Mrs Ashton’s Orchestra will supply the music and there will be novelty dances on the programme. Dance at Belvedere. There was a good attendance at the Belvedere schoolroom last evening, the occasion being a patriotic dance. The music was supplied by Mrs Rogers, of Dalefield, and extras were played by Misses B. James and I. Thomas. A Monte Carlo waltz was won by Miss B. Bond and partner. Mr A. E. Reid was an efficient M.C. REGENT THEATRE "MY FAVOURITE BLONDE.” The leading roles in the excellent comedy, “My Favourite Blonde,” which will be shown tonight, are taken by Bob Hope and Madeleine Carroll.
